Yuri on Ice Movie has finally shared a new status update

Yuri on ice has been quiet since its first season ended in 2016. The series was one of the best to debut that year, and MAPPA received accolades for all its work. Of course, fans were thrilled when news broke that a movie was in the works for the anime, and we just got an update on the project after quite a long wait.

The update comes directly from Yuri on Ice site in Japan. This is where fans were teased about the movie, and it turns out ice teen is still under construction. According to MAPPA, production is still moving forward on the film, but the project has not reached a point where a release date can be given.

NEWS: Yuri on Ice the Movie: ICE TEENAGE has received a status update via the official website!

He says production on the film is still underway, but it’s still not at a stage where it can get a release date.

This update was accompanied by a new visual all about Yuri on ice. As you can see above, the poster was released to honor the anime’s 5th anniversary. Although the milestone will not be reached until this fall, Yuri on ice wanted to hype the fandom in light of his movie update. And as you can see, Yuri and Viktor are in the center of this photo.

The key visual seems to be set in the present day as Viktor stands outside the rink with a mask covering his face. Wearing a dress jacket, Viktor’s silver hair is hard to mistake, and he holds Yuri’s arm while the other stands on the ice. Yuri looks ready to warm up on the ice alongside his competitors, and his hair is pulled back into a bun. This style is closely imitated by Yuri Plisetsky in the background, and of course the Russian prodigy gives his rivals the sideways glance from where he stands.

This adorable work of art has done its job just like the Yuri on ice fandom lives for the update. Now all eyes are on MAPPA to see when its film might be released online. Currently, the studio is in charge of other top projects like Jujutsu Kaisen and The attack of the Titans. But when it comes to tenacity, well – the Yuri on ice fandom is hard to beat.
