PEOPLE first confirmed Lovato’s new relationship in early August, with a source revealing at the time, “It’s a really happy and healthy relationship. He’s a super awesome guy.”
While Lovato has yet to go “Instagram official” with Jutes on his own page, he recently shared a heartfelt post dedicated to the “29” singer on their 30th anniversary.
“Happy birthday baby. You’re a 30 year old minx and I’m the luckiest asshole alive because I can call you mine,” Jutes captioned the PDA-filled gallery of images.
“Making you laugh has become my new obsession because your smile literally cures my depression (there’s song lyrics in there somewhere),” he continued. “I’m so proud of you, not only because you survived everything you’ve been through, but you emerged victorious and became your healthiest, happiest, sweetest self.”
Lovato responded in the comments, “YOU ARE THE BEST BOYFRIEND IN THE WORLD.”
Here’s everything you need to know about Lovato’s new pal.
He is from Canada
Jutes is from Ottawa, Canada. According to a previous interview with Shades Magazinehe first studied film and played basketball, before developing a passion for songwriting while living in Toronto.
He is an independent musician
Jutes was previously signed to Capitol Records but left the label “to pursue his own goals as an independent artist”, according to Shades Magazine.
“I left because because of Covid crazy budgets were cut, and I guess they didn’t want to hold me back and not give me the support I needed, which they have so much lucky to do,” he told the publication of his decision to part ways with Capitol Records after two years.
“You hear about labels that put people away or hold them back without pushing them so often, and I can’t say how grateful I am that it’s not me,” he added. “I’ve been wishing I could go freelance again for a while just because I like being totally in charge of my own career, so it’s worked out pretty well.”
He co-wrote some of Demi Lovato’s recent songs
In a July post, Jutes revealed that he worked on Lovato’s track “Substance” from her recent album. “One of my favorite songs I’ve ever worked on,” he wrote alongside a clip of Lovato’s music video.
“When I was asked to stop and write for this session, I remember thinking what am I supposed to do in a demi lovato session? only to arrive and realize she was doing one hardest rock projects I’ve ever heard.” He continued. “Obviously a crazy step for me, but beyond that I feel so lucky to be a part of something I’m such a big fan of.”
He was open about his sobriety journey
Like Lovato, Jutes has been candid about his sobriety journey. In July, he marked 100 days of sobriety on Twitter. “Learning to properly manage my anxiety was something I was always too scared to try,” he wrote. “It took me a long time to get ready, but I’ve never felt better mentally and emotionally. If you’re dealing with s—rn that seems endless, know that nothing lasts forever.”
He uses his music to deal with his emotions
In his interview with Shades Magazine, he opened up about his passion for songwriting, calling it his “therapy.” “I really live to write songs,” he told the publication. “That’s how I started being honest about my emotions and my mental health, so my connection to that is very deep rooted.”
He added that he hopes the music he creates will inspire others going through similar situations. “I have over 300 demos on my phone and these are just the latest. So I figured no one can tell me what to do anymore, so why hoard this music for me. Even if a song helps a person so it has a purpose and will also earn me some money in the process.I feel free these days and want to stop overthinking and let them fly.
He’s super supportive of Demi Lovato
In addition to sharing heartfelt birthday tributes to the singer, Lutes constantly praises Lovato’s musical talents on Instagram. After their performance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy FallonJutes posted a clip of them singing, writing, “sheeeesh best voice in the game, hands down. you killed it rockstar @ddlovato,” before adding, “ps ur f—— hot.”
