Abbott Elementary Cast Includes Janelle James as Principal

The cast of the mockumentary includes Quinta Brunson, who also created the sitcom, as second-grade teacher Janine Teagues.

Describing herself as an optimist, Janine sincerely wants to help her students but must find the border between too much attention. She admires no-nonsense kindergarten teacher Barbara Howard, portrayed by Sheryl Lee Ralph, who has taught for decades and has a heart for her children and colleagues, despite her stern attitude.

Jacob Hill stars as Chris Perfetti, a passionate history teacher who loves his job but lacks backbone, which leads him to become a punching bag for his class. The other second grade teacher, Melissa Schemmenti (Lisa Ann Walter), lives in South Jersey and is described as “incomplete” by Chris. Be that as it may, she doesn’t hesitate to ask her “relations” to help her colleagues.

Janelle James plays unqualified principal Ava Coleman, who admittedly got her job through blackmail. Although she misuses the funds and tends to take advantage of her position, the headmistress seems to care about her school. Substitute teacher Gregory Eddie, played by Tyler James Williams, joins Abbott Elementary near the start of the season. However, there are signs that it is becoming permanent as the students love it. Finally, William Stanford Davis portrays the apathetic and amorous guard of the boys 2 men, Mr. Johnson.

The ABC sitcom revolves around teachers working in an underfunded public school

Abbott Elementary School features teachers working in an underfunded and understaffed public school in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Viewers are introduced to the group when inept but sometimes well-meaning principal Ava Coleman landed Abbott a spot in a documentary about schools that lacked sufficient funds.

The mockumentary focuses on the public education system and outnumbered teachers determined to help their students thrive despite their less than ideal circumstances.

Abbott Elementary School airs Tuesdays on ABC.
