The Grinch Becomes A Slasher In New Horror Movie The Mean One
Dr. Seuss’ beloved character The Grinch becomes a slasher in new horror flick The Mean One, which arrives just in time for the holiday season.
As an iconic children’s character switches genres on screen, The Grinch now becomes a slasher with the new horror flick The mean one. First created by Dr. Seuss in the 1957 book How the Grinch Stole Christmas!, the grumpy character who hates Christmas has been seen on screen in a variety of adaptations over the years, ranging from the iconic 1966 animated special in which he was voiced by Boris Karloff to the favorite live-action movie fans led by Jim Carrey. More recently, Benedict Cumberbatch voiced the beloved character Seuss in the 2018 animated film the grinchwhich received largely mixed reviews, but was a box office hit.
Directed by Steven La Morte, The mean one brings a parody approach to The Grinch as it takes place in the mountain town of Newville and revolves around the titular character as he sits above the town scorning the holiday season. The Mean One will set its sights on Cindy You-Know-Who, who has returned to town for closure after massacring her parents 20 years ago, setting the stage for a brutal revenge plot. As the holiday season series kicks off, audiences get a glimpse of a fun crossover of multiple genres with a unique take on a beloved character.
Bloody disgusting revealed that XYZ Films had acquired the rights to the horror-comedy The mean one. The film, which is due out for free everywhere on December 15, is described as a slasher parody of Seuss’ children’s book. XYZ Films Director of Acquisitions and Development Alex Williams wrote of the acquisition in the following statement:
As an avid fan of seasonal horror (and CREEPY franchise), The mean one is exactly the kind of movie that lands on my personal “beautiful list”. This film is an insanely great time with a ferociously subversive turn from David Howard Thornton – and XYZ Films is so proud to bring this iconic upcoming Christmas slasher to audiences this holiday season.
Can The Mean One top Winnie-The-Pooh: Blood & Honey?
The revelation of The mean one comes as fans of the horror genre are currently gearing up for the release of Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey, the same slasher twist of AA Milne’s iconic character and his sidekick Piglet as they attack Christopher Robin and his new wife for abandoning them while he was attending college. The film, which was produced because the rights to the character fell into the public domain, received an understandably divisive response, with some praising the interesting twist of a beloved character, while others slammed it. criticized for the violent reimagining of Pooh and Piglet. With The mean one now joining the ranks of horror movies featuring different takes on characters from childhood, it will be interesting to see how it stacks up against Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey.Since the latter film has yet to receive a release date, The mean one could finally set the bar for this new horror subgenre should Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey won’t be released until 2023. With the Christmas season already proving to be vast territory for the horror genre with the likes of Black Christmas, Krampus and many more, this new version of The Grinch could become one of December’s cult favorites if the public clicks on it. Only time will tell when The mean one releases for free on December 15.Source: Bloody Disgusting
