Tampa Bay director’s new film starring Anthony Mackie has gone No.1 on Netflix
TARPON SPRINGS – The weekend’s most watched Netflix pick was made by Tarpon Springs native Aaron Moorhead and held his No.1 spot on the streaming platform Monday morning.
Titled Synchronous and with Anthony Mackie from the Marvel Cinematic Universe The Falcon and the Winter Soldier series, the film follows a New Orleans paramedic seeking to uncover the secrets of a deadly synthetic drug in order to find his partner’s missing daughter.
“Thank you and I love you to everyone who believed in this independent film,” Moorhead, 33, tweeted on Sunday morning.
Moorhead was also the cinematographer for the film, which he directed with director and screenwriter Justin Benson of San Diego.
Moorhead and Benson met while on an internship for the Los Angeles-based production company run by Ridley Scott, the man behind films such as Extraterrestrial, Bladerunner and Black hawk down.
Moorhead and Benson – both now live in Los Angeles – released their first of four independent feature films as co-directors in 2012.
The next step for the duo is the making of several episodes of Moon knight to stream on Disney + as part of the ongoing Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Moon knight, with Oscar Isaac, better known as Poe Dameron in the most recent Star wars trilogy, is based on the comic book series of the same name. A former member of the Navy and CIA becomes a costumed earth avatar and crime-fighting Egyptian god of vengeance.
