Snow White: Everything We Want To See In The Next Movie

Disney has become known for its live-action remakes of its classic animated films and it has been announced that a live-action adaptation of White as snowthe animated film that launched the Disney empire in the 1930s is in the works.

Because of this, fans are starting to speculate on what they can expect from the next movie, and more specifically, what they want to see. A good remake must both have some level of respect for the original and be able to stand on its own. Otherwise, it defeats the purpose of making a remake in the first place.

8 The Snow White Story Could Be Explored

In the classic film, Snow White is established as the queen’s daughter-in-law, but little of her past is really explored, at least in the film. Although considered a princess, Snow White is generally assumed to be the daughter of a deceased king, presumably the queen’s deceased husband. Apparently, scenes involving Snow White’s parents were intended for the movie but were cut for various reasons, most likely due to the Hays code and the movie going over budget.

Snow White’s backstory can be explored similar to what viewers saw in 2015 Cinderella film, which included scenes with the heroine’s real mother, a posthumous character from the animated film.

7 The Evil Queen should make an impression

Every good fairy tale needs a good villain, and the Evil Queen is arguably already one of the most infamous villains in folklore. Whether this new version becomes a villain viewers love to hate or someone they actually end up liking, it has to make a lasting impression on audiences.

Casting a popular actress like Gal Gadot can be a great start. The film could find ways to make Gadot’s performance of the Evil Queen unique or could try to get as close to the animated original as possible. The important thing is that viewers notice it. No matter what, it’s important to remember that there’s nothing wrong with people choosing the villain over the hero; in fact, the original animators who worked on the film would have preferred the Queen over her daughter-in-law.

6 They might have a few twists to make this story unique

Characteristic Snow White

In recent years, Disney has sometimes shown reluctance to adhere to its famous tropes. For example, the prince may have awakened Sleeping Beauty in his animated film, but that was changed in the perspective-flip live-action film, Maleficent in an attempt to update the story for modern times.

Even the Brothers Grimm, who originally collected and published many of these fairy tales, noted in their manuscript that Snow White was not always saved by a prince. In one version, Snow White’s father is the one who finds her corpse and revives her doctors.

5 There might be references to the story of the fairy tale

Snow White eats the poison apple

There are variations of White as snow fairy tales from all over the world, and not only from Europe, but also from parts of Asia, Africa and the Americas. Some take the story in different directions and have elements that could be fun to combine with the story viewers know and love.

All sorts of mishaps happen in global versions of the story. In a Mexican version, Snow White’s counterpart leads an army of wolves against her stepmother. In a version from Mozambique, the Snow White analogue exposes her evil mother at a banquet and shoots her with a gun.

4 There may also be mythology gags in the classic film

Skeleton in the Snow White Dungeon

The 1937 film had a lot of footage that ultimately didn’t make it for a variety of reasons, often because of the Hays code and sometimes because the film simply couldn’t afford the extra scenes. Some of these ideas included multiple attempts to poison Snow White, the queen imprisoning the prince and tormenting him with skeletons, and a variety of songs that ended up being cut. Concept art featuring Snow White in a wedding dress suggests viewers would also have seen her marry her prince at the end. Many of these discarded ideas could make for interesting ideas if adapted to modern cinema.

3 There may also be dedications to other Disney spin-offs

There have been other Disney-related properties that have used the company’s version of Snow White, from the Broadway musical to the comic books, and arguably even Once upon a time. Many of these spin-offs and incarnations add their own unique twists to the handling of the animated film’s characters and story.

Viewers who are longtime Disney fans might be interested in seeing these other incarnations get the occasional reference in the live-action remake, even if it’s just an easter egg or small reference. .

2 A lot of effort has to be put into the costumes

Disney’s live-action remake Cinderella showed that costumes don’t need to be literal recreations of their animated counterparts to wow viewers, they just need to look good, with many viewers falling in love with the heroine’s blue butterfly dress. Conversely, The beauty and the Beast got some criticism for the dull yellow dress she stuck her heroine in.

Being a fairy tale, the film will likely get something of a pass when it comes to historical accuracy, but thought and good taste must be put into costume design.

1 Songs should be treated with respect and taste

Snow White sings

In recent years, Disney has shown a greater willingness for its live-action remakes to honor the musical roots of its animated originals, but the music is often taken in a new direction. There’s nothing wrong with adding a new twist to a classic song or adding new songs to a musical, but that doesn’t mean such an endeavor should be taken lightly.

Adding new songs can be particularly awkward, as they risk sounding too modern and out of place, which will be of particular concern when adapting a 1930s musical film.
