The upcoming One Piece Red movie will feature new costumes for Luffy, Nami, Zoro, Sanji, and the rest of the Straw Hat Pirate team.

Straw Hat Pirates will get an updated look for One red coin.

The new costumes were unveiled during the A piece panel at Jump Festa, an annual event organized by publisher Shueisha to promote the Shonen jump manga magazine and all the anime and manga franchises it has published. Although a new trailer or additional details on the story of the new film were not revealed, the panel presented the first rough sketches of the new costumes of the Straw Hat Pirates. Some characters, like Luffy and Sanji, simply take on a more laid-back appearance, while other characters have received more drastic redesigns, like Usopp’s KISS-inspired outfit and Franky’s new boxy appearance, which seems to be inspired by the design of a classic cassette boombox. . The new film is still scheduled to premiere in Japan on August 6. An international release has been confirmed but no date has yet been given.

One piece: red will be the franchise’s 15th theatrical release. Series creator Eiichiro Oda is overseeing production of the new film. Oda previously admitted that the film was born out of her desire to add a new female character to the series. “I’m tired of drawing legendary old grandfathers in the movies! I want to draw a new little female character! This is the character I want to do now! And that’s how it started”, Oda said. The new film is being written by Tsutomu Kuroiwa, who previously wrote the screenplay for One Piece Film: Gold and will be led by Code Geass‘Goro Taniguchi.

Red-Haired Shanks, captain of the Red Hair Pirates and one of the Four New World Emperors, will be central to the story of the film. Shanks is the man who inspired the series’ protagonist, Monkey D. Luffy, to take the life of a pirate, and he also gave the stretchy young hero his iconic straw hat. A previously released trailer revealed that the new female character Oda mentioned is something of a singer.
