Olivia Wilde’s “Don’t Worry Darling” CinemaCon Presentation Interrupted by Mystery Envelope Delivery
During the presentation of his next psychological thriller don’t worry darling to CinemaCon, Olivia Wilde compared the project to mind-blowing movies like The matrix and Creation. Then came a puzzle.
An unidentified guest approached the stage to interrupt Wilde, as she read on the teleprompter, to place a manila envelope on the main stage inside the Coliseum at Caesars Palace in front of 3,000 industry insiders. the exhibition and the press. “Is this for me?” Wilde asked the woman as he picked up the envelope. She interrupted her comments to open it with another question. “Is it for me?”

Wilde pulled out the contents of the envelope and read the first page without missing a beat. “Thank you,” she said before returning her attention to the prepared comments. In Getty photos distributed after the event, it is clear that the envelope reads “Personal and Confidential.” In the presence of hundreds of members of the press, the unplanned moment raised eyebrows, with some suggesting on Twitter that it was either a script or that Wilde had been served a trial. The Hollywood Reporter contacted representatives for Wilde and the studio.
Meanwhile, Wilde’s time on stage made headlines for other reasons as she offered the first official trailer for the film featuring Florence Poug, Harry Styles, Wilde, Chris Pine, Gemma Chan, KiKi Layne and Nick Kroll. “What would it take for you to give up your life, to do what is right? It is the question of don’t worry darling“, Wilde said before unveiling the exclusive look which featured steamy sex scenes between protagonists Pugh and Styles and a lot of mystery surrounding an entity called Victory Project. (She also praised the exhibitors “who fought so hard to keep the movie industry alive”.)
She praised her cast, comparing Pugh’s performance to “the birth of a movie star in her own right” while calling Styles, who she is in a relationship with, “a revelation”. She joked, “I’m in the movie too because I was the only one we could afford when we got to this point.”
Having Styles in a feature can be seen as a coup for WB affiliate New Line, as the singer dominates the cultural zeitgeist these days. Fresh off a headliner at Coachella where he performed in front of over 100,000 people, Styles topped the Billboard charts with his single “As it Was”, from his anticipated upcoming album, Harry’s house, to be published in May. Basically, anything Styles touches generates worldwide interest, so interest around the trailer is already high.
As a fun aside, Wilde called Styles “a promising actor with no other career that I know of.”
