UPDATE with a new date: The New York Film Critics Circle has said the new date for its previously postponed 2022 awards ceremony will be Wednesday, March 16 at TAO Downtown in Manhattan.

The band voted Japan’s submission to the Oscars last month drive my car as her best film, while Jane Campion was named best director for The power of the dog. Lady Gaga (Gucci House) and Benedict Cumberbatch (The power of the dog) won Best Actress and Best Actor, respectively.

NYFCC was forced to delay its annual awards gala to honor its winners until later in December due to the latest spike in Covid cases.

PREVIOUSLY, December 21: While the 2022 New York Film Critics Circle Awards were due to take place at Tao Downtown in New York City on January 10, they have now been postponed due to the recent rise in Covid cases across the country, with a new date for the ceremony to be unveiled early next year.

“For the safety of our laureates and our members, we have made the decision to postpone our dinner. But rest assured, we will find a way to celebrate the achievements of our winners in the months ahead,” said NYFCC President Stephanie Zacharek. “Even in the midst of uncertain times, we see this as a positive step forward.”

Unlike organizations like the Hollywood Film Critics Association which have been forced to push back the dates of their ceremonies, the New York Film Critics Circle has already revealed the winners of its annual awards, last month awarding the best film to drive my car and name The power of the dog‘s Jane Campion as Best Director. Lady Gaga was crowned best actress for her role in Gucci House, with The power of the dogBenedict Cumberbatch voted best actor.

Special Award recipients were also named, with those honors going to Maya Cade for creating the Black Film Archive; to the late Diane Weyermann, for her support in making bold and impactful films at Sundance and Participant; and to Marshall Fine for his years of service as NYFCC General Manager and his decades on the New York movie scene.

The New York Film Critics Circle is the nation’s oldest critics group, having been founded in 1935. Its members include reviewers from daily and weekly newspapers and magazines, as well as online publications. The full list of 2022 NYFCC winners is available here.
