Lily Tomlin and Jane Fonda to Team Up for Big Screen Comedy “Moving On”
“Grace and Frankie” stars Lily Tomlin and Jane Fonda will team up for the feature-length comedy “Moving On”, written and directed by Paul Weitz (“About A Boy”, “Fatherhood”). The couple also starred in the famous 1980 hit comedy “9 to 5” with Dolly Parton.
Tomlin and Fonda will be joined in the cast by Malcolm McDowell and Richard Roundtree in the story of two old friends who reconnect at a funeral and plot to get revenge on a widower who has wronged them in the past. Production is slated to take place this fall in Los Angeles.
The seventh and final season of âGrace and Frankie,â which also stars Martin Sheen and Sam Waterston, is currently filming through November. The first four episodes of the season were released early. “Grace and Frankie” was picked up for a seventh and final season almost two years ago, but production for the final season has been delayed by the pandemic. By the show’s end next year, it will be Netflix’s longest-running original series with a total of 94 episodes.
Weitz will produce with Andrew Miano and Stephanie Meurer through Depth of field. Chris Parker and Dylan Sellers of Spotlight fund the film and also serve as producers. Britta Rowlings and Dan Balgoyen of Depth of Field are the executive producers.
Fonda, 83 years old, remained active in social causes in recent years. She has been arrested five times for her Fire Drill Fridays protests in Washington DC, as part of an environmental movement led by Fonda and Greenpeace. Fonda supported the civil rights movement and opposed the wars in Vietnam and Iraq. Her passion for Fire Drill Fridays led her to relocate to Washington DC, where she began protesting outside Capitol Hill every Friday to urge elected officials to focus on the global climate crisis.
