Latest achievement of the AOC – WSJ
Guess who is Goya’s employee of the month? The honor goes to Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D., NY), who supported the boycott of Goya Foods earlier this year after CEO Robert Unanue visited Trump’s White House as part of an initiative Hispanic for prosperity.
Mr. Unanue announced the news Monday during an interview with “The Michael Berry Show”. “When she boycotted us, our sales actually increased by 1,000%,” Mr. Unanue said. “So we gave him an honor. We were never able to give it to her, but she was employee of the month for calling attention to Goya and our adobo.
Ms Ocasio-Cortez now denies that she ever called for a boycott, tweeting that all she did was tweet to learn how to make her own adobo, and that any suggestion otherwise is a matter of Fox News indulging in ” their invented fantasies ”. Adobo happens to be one of Goya’s most popular seasonings, and his search for an alternative has come at the heart of boycott calls. CNN reported at the time that “Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez suggested in a tweet that she would boycott Goya.
We are glad that Mr. Unanue, who pointed out that he had been involved in similar initiatives for Barack and Michelle Obama, has never backed down and his company has not been harmed. Maybe the member needs a better sense of humor.
