John Cena, Alison Brie Team for Action Comedy ‘Freelance’ – The Hollywood Reporter
Alison Brie is set to star alongside John Cena in Freelance, an action comedy directed by Taken helmsman Pierre Morel.
AGC Studios, led by Stuart Ford, is behind the project, which is executive produced by Endurance Media’s Steve Richards, Sentient’s Renee Tab and Christopher Tuffin.
Jacob Lentz’s screenplay centers on a former Special Forces operative who, desperate to escape his monotonous life, takes a job providing security for a journalist who hopes to save her career by interviewing a dictator. Things go awry when a military coup breaks out in the middle of the interview, and the mismatched duo, along with the dictator, escape into the jungle where they must survive the military chasing them, the animals hunting them. and to each other.
Cena, who is currently flying high thanks to the recent release of the HBO Max DC series Peacemaker, plays, unsurprisingly, the ex-soldier, with Brie cast to play the reporter.
Production is expected to begin later this month in Colombia. AGC and Endurance co-finance. AGC, ICM Partners and UTA Independent represent national rights.
Brie, who showed off her comedy chops as one of the stars of the cult comedy series Community, was a track on GLOW, the all-too-soon comedic drama that has gained a loyal fanbase over its three seasons on Netflix.
Featurewise, she appeared in Promising young woman and The happiest season, both released in 2020, and will next be seen in a romantic comedy someone i knew, directed by her husband Dave Franco.
Brie is replaced by WME, Rise Management and Sloane Offer.
