John Boyega joins Viola Davis in Gina Prince-Bythewood’s “The Woman King”
After completing a star performance in the Star Wars sequel trilogy, all eyes are on John Boyega as he continues to build on his legacy. Gina Prince-Bythewood will direct the feature film, based on an original screenplay by Dana Stevens (Paternity). Additionally, Prince-Bythewood helped draft the current draft of the screenplay alongside Stevens. Oscar-winning producer Cathy Schulman is on board to produce the film with TriStar Pictures handling financing and distribution. In a statement, Prince Bythewood shares his enthusiasm for Boyega joining the film.

“I have been wowed by John’s immense talent for years, but his speech to black women at the protests cemented my desire to work with him,” Prince-Bythewood said. “King Ghezo’s description reads: ‘He walks as if the earth is honored by its burden.’ John has this innate depth and swagger, and I’m so excited to bring it to the screen.
