10 upcoming remakes with the most potential
Movie remakes have been hugely popular in recent years, but most of these reimaginings are seen as money grabs. Generally, these movies get attention but turn out to be a less popular version of the original. However, once in a while a remake can break the mold.
Hollywood currently has a slew of remakes and reboots underway. It’s exciting to think that some very talented creative teams are looking to revitalize popular films. Hopefully, the upcoming remakes with the most potential will see a talented team of creators improve upon the original. Fans should keep an eye out for some of the upcoming reimaginings.
ten The blade needs a new grip
1998 Blade is somewhat underestimated. It’s not perfect, but it’s usually overlooked in conversations about R-rated breakthrough comic book movies. Blade also did a lot to reinvent the character and reinvent his mythology.
A Blade remake, especially one in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, is a fascinating prospect. It’s been a while since the character appeared on screen, and audiences are excited to see him return. Plus, the talent behind the film is very exciting. Mahershala Ali in the titular role guarantees a terrific performance. The Blade the remake is slated for release in 2023, and if it can capture the dark tone and action of the first two Blade films while providing audiences with something new, fans will be happy.
9 Drop Dead Fred Could Become A Surreal Comedy Hit
Drop Dead Fred is not beyond improving. Despite the film’s nostalgia and Rik Mayall’s incredible performance, critics didn’t like it too much Drop Dead Fred when it was released in 1991. The comedy film follows the antics of a girl’s goofy imaginary friend and her inability to let him go.
An imaginative comedy remake is a great idea. Although the Drop Dead Fred remake has no set release date and is stuck in development hell, it is said to star Russell Brand. With a solid cast of talented comedic actors, this film could easily add a lot to the original. Granted, it won’t have the same nostalgic quality, but there’s potential here.
8 Chopping Mall could be a fun and bloody remake
hash mall is a cult classic beloved by B-movie fans. Although it’s a goofy movie, its premise is a lot of fun. hash mall centers on a group of security bots running amok in a shopping mall. Eventually the robots start killing people one by one.
A campy remake could be incredibly enjoyable. Bloody deaths, silly setups, and funny dialogue would all help this remake succeed. Not much has been revealed about the new hash mall movie, but if it leans into the ’80s slasher genre and all of its tropes, it could be a fun callback. Although the hash mall remake has no details so far, it has the potential to be a fun ride.
seven Hellraiser needs a revitalization
the original hellraiser is considered classic British horror by many fans. The first film chronicles the resurrection of a horrific being who is on a murderous quest to bring himself back to life. hellraiser gave audiences great practical effects and chilling plot. It also received several less successful sequels, but it’s been a while since hellraiser was on the big screen.
Given the division of the original hellraiser movie, a remake could backfire. However, David Bruckner (The night house) is attached, so fans are much more optimistic. Due to Bruckner’s involvement, the film will hopefully lean more towards an uneasy atmosphere and macabre mystery. The remake is set to release on October 7, 2022.
6 Honor Thieves Could Bring Mythology and Magic to the Big Screen
Dungeons & Dragons is one of the best-known role-playing games. So far, however, the game has only received one direct big-screen adaptation, and it wasn’t a hit. The 2000 film failed with the classic role-playing game’s loyal fans and critics.
A new J&D the film could follow the same path as something like Warcraftbut I hope it will receive more praise. Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Thieves is starring Chris Pine, Michelle Rodriguez and Rege-Jean Page. Audiences love well-written fantasy titles, like game of thrones, so it might work well. The upcoming film has a lot of potential and should take advantage of the creativity of the board game.
5 Red Sonja’s Remake Could Put the Comic Character Back in the Spotlight
Red Sonja was created by Marvel Comics in 1973. While she may not be a fit for today’s Marvel Cinematic Universe, she is in desperate need of a revival. Red Sonja has received many adaptations on different media platforms, including a movie in 1985. The 1985 movie starred Brigitte Nielsen as the title character and Arnold Schwarzenegger as High Lord Kalidor.
Sonja Red was heralded by both fans and critics, meaning the sword-wielding character wasn’t seen on the big screen for a long time. However, there’s a lot of potential in a new take on the character, and the remake has already started filming. An all-star cast, a talented director, and a plot that uses action and sorcery could very easily make for a hit movie.
4 Road House could take a new approach
Relay is a cult classic from the 80s. The original movie stars Patrick Swayze as a bouncer who starts work at a tough bar in Kansas. He attempts to restore the bar’s solid reputation, but it all leads to a burst of ’80s action.
Relay received mixed reviews but was widely praised for its commitment to the action genre. A modern update with a similar goal has a lot of potential. Otherwise, the remake could focus more on the true story, which also has potential. Relay is loosely based on the murder of Ken McElroy, but the case remains unsolved. It could make for a gripping movie, one that would be bolstered by Jake Gyllenhaal’s star power.
3 The Wolf Man has a top creative team attached
The werewolf has never been a top property, so many audiences don’t know why there is a highly anticipated new werewolf film. However, given the talent involved, it makes sense.
The remake is expected to star Ryan Gosling in the lead role. Not only is Gosling incredibly talented, but he’s also selective about his roles. This suggests that the remake script offers something new. Director Derek Cianfrance (The place Beyond the Pines) is also an excellent choice. Neither Gosling nor Cianfrance did anything like The werewolf before, so fans are excited to see the result.
2 Pinocchio can explore a classic fairy tale through a new lens
Pinocchio is a famous fairy tale, and when most people think of Pinocchio, they think of the fan-favorite Disney film from 1940. Two remakes will be released in 2022, one in October and one in September. Both come from talented creative teams.
September 8 saw the live-action remake of Robert Zemeckis (Back to the future), which was released to mixed reviews. However, most fans have their eyes on Guillermo Del Toro’s version. In addition to a brilliant cast and an interesting art style, Del Toro’s stop-motion remake will also sport the director’s signature style. the anime Pinocchio looks like a fresh take on the classic story, which will make for an interesting watch.
1 Nosferatu can become terrifying again
1992 Nosferatus is a classic vampire horror movie that has an eerie atmosphere and terrifying imagery. Due to Nosferatus success, another version of the story has a lot of potential.
With director Robert Eggers on board the project, fans are very excited. Egger’s involvement almost guarantees that the film will take a different, more artistic approach than most horror films. Not only that, but it will likely have an all-star cast. Anya Taylor-Joy is the only star attached so far, but anyone who’s seen The man from the north knows that Eggers attracts extremely talented teams.
